Article 533 of the French General Tax Code

Manufacturers of gold, silver and platinum articles are required to make themselves known to the office of guarantee on which they depend and to have their particular hallmark inscribed there, with their name on a copper plate for that purpose. The guarantee office shall ensure that the same symbol is not used by several manufacturers.

If they manufacture articles which are to benefit from the guarantee, they must indicate, in writing, to the competent department designated by the administrative authority, the approved inspection body they have chosen and provide proof of the latter’s agreement. In the event of a change of approved inspection body, they must provide proof to the department that they have notified their decision to the previous body and have fulfilled their obligations towards it.

Article 533
