Article 600 of the French Civil Code

The usufructuary takes the things in the state in which they are, but he may not enter into enjoyment until he has caused to be drawn up, in the presence of the owner, or him duly summoned, an inventory of the movables and a statement of the immovables subject to the usufruct.

L’usufruitier prend les choses dans l’état où elles sont, mais il ne peut entrer en jouissance qu’après avoir fait dresser, en présence du propriétaire, ou lui dûment appelé, un inventaire des meubles et un état des immeubles sujets à l’usufruit.
