Article 696-26 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

Within two days of the arrest of the person claimed, the Public Prosecutor shall notify the latter, in a language he understands, of the documents by virtue of which he has been apprehended. He shall inform the person that he may consent to his extradition before the Investigating Chamber under the simplified procedure. It also informs them that they may waive the rule of speciality. Mention of this information shall be made in the minutes, failing which the proceedings shall be null and void.

The person concerned shall have the right to the assistance of a lawyer under the conditions provided for in the second and third paragraphs of l’article 696-10.

Article 696-26

Dans un délai de deux jours à compter de l’arrestation de la personne réclamée, le procureur général notifie à cette dernière, dans une langue qu’elle comprend, les pièces en vertu desquelles elle a été appréhendée. Il l’avise qu’elle peut consentir à son extradition devant la chambre de l’instruction selon la procédure simplifiée. Il l’informe également qu’elle peut renoncer à la règle de la spécialité. Mention de ces informations est faite au procès-verbal, à peine de nullité de la procédure.

L’intéressé a droit à l’assistance d’un avocat dans les conditions prévues aux deuxième et troisième alinéas de l’article 696-10.
