Article 706-111-1 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

For the investigation, prosecution, inquiry and, in the case of misdemeanours, the judgment of offences relating to damage to maritime cultural property provided for in Section 2 of Chapter IV of Title IV of Book V of the Heritage Code which are committed in territorial waters and the contiguous zone, the jurisdiction of a judicial court may be extended to the jurisdiction of one or more courts of appeal.

This jurisdiction extends to related offences.

A decree sets the list and jurisdiction of these maritime coastal courts. These courts include a section of the public prosecutor’s office and specialised investigation and trial panels to deal with these offences.

Pour l’enquête, la poursuite, l’instruction et, s’il s’agit de délits, le jugement des infractions relatives aux atteintes aux biens culturels maritimes prévues à la section 2 du chapitre IV du titre IV du livre V du code du patrimoine qui sont commises dans les eaux territoriales et la zone contiguë, la compétence d’un tribunal judiciaire peut être étendue au ressort d’une ou de plusieurs cours d’appel.

Cette compétence s’étend aux infractions connexes.

Un décret fixe la liste et le ressort de ces juridictions du littoral maritime. Ces juridictions comprennent une section du parquet et des formations d’instruction et de jugement spécialisées pour connaître de ces infractions.
