Article 98-1 of the French Civil Code

Similarly, an act in lieu of a marriage record is drawn up when the person acquiring or recovering French nationality has previously contracted marriage abroad, unless the celebration of the marriage has already been recorded by an act entered in a register kept by a French authority.

The record states:

– the date and place of the celebration;

– an indication of the authority that performed it;

– the surnames, forenames, dates and places of birth of each of the spouses;

– the filiation of the spouses;

– as well as, if applicable, the name, capacity and residence of the authority that received the marriage contract.

De même, un acte tenant lieu d’acte de mariage est dressé lorsque la personne qui acquiert ou recouvre la nationalité française a contracté mariage antérieurement à l’étranger, à moins que la célébration du mariage n’ait déjà été constatée par un acte porté sur un registre conservé par une autorité française.

L’acte énonce :

– la date et le lieu de la célébration ;

– l’indication de l’autorité qui y a procédé ;

– les noms, prénoms, dates et lieux de naissance de chacun des époux ;

– la filiation des époux ;

– ainsi que, s’il y a lieu, le nom, la qualité et la résidence de l’autorité qui a reçu le contrat de mariage.
