Article D15-5-2 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The officer or agent of the judicial police responsible for the arrangements for police custody may request by any means an officer or agent of the judicial police belonging to a territorially competent service other than the one in charge of the investigation to carry out the following steps:

1° Notify the persons mentioned in article 63-2;

2° Contact the lawyer appointed or assigned to assist the person in police custody pursuant to articles 63-3-1 and following, and inform them of the places and times of the hearings;

3° Contact the doctor who is to examine the person in police custody pursuant to article 63-3;

4° Contact the interpreter in accordance with the provisions of article 63-1.

In a report sent to the requesting judicial police officer, the requested officer or agent of the judicial police will state how these steps are to be taken, which may be carried out by any member of the national police or gendarmerie, including those who are not deputy judicial police officers, placed under his responsibility and control.

L’officier ou l’agent de police judiciaire responsable des modalités de déroulement de la garde à vue peut requérir par tout moyen d’un officier ou agent de police judiciaire appartenant à un service territorialement compétent autre que celui chargé de l’enquête de faire procéder aux diligences suivantes :

1° Prévenir par téléphone de la garde à vue les personnes mentionnées à l’article 63-2 ;

2° Contacter l’avocat désigné ou commis d’office pour assister la personne en garde à vue en application des articles 63-3-1 et suivants, et l’informer des lieux et horaires des auditions ;

3° Contacter le médecin devant examiner la personne en garde à vue en application de l’article 63-3 ;

4° Contacter l’interprète conformément aux dispositions de l’article 63-1.

L’officier ou l’agent de police judiciaire requis mentionne, dans un rapport transmis à l’officier de police judiciaire requérant, les modalités d’exécution de ces diligences, qui peuvent être effectuées par tout personnel de la police ou de la gendarmerie nationale, y compris n’ayant pas la qualité d’agent de police judiciaire adjoint, placé sous sa responsabilité et son contrôle.
