Article L121-8 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

The French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons ensures, in liaison with the competent administrative authorities, compliance with the fundamental guarantees offered by national law, the implementation of international conventions, agreements or arrangements concerning the protection of refugees on the territory of the Republic, and in particular the protection provided by the Geneva Convention of 28 July 1951 and the New York Protocol of 31 January 1967 relating to the status of refugees.It cooperates with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and facilitates his supervisory role under the conditions laid down in international agreements.

It is also responsible for the protection of refugees in the territory of the French Republic.

L’Office français de protection des réfugiés et apatrides assure, en liaison avec les autorités administratives compétentes, le respect des garanties fondamentales offertes par le droit national, l’exécution des conventions, accords ou arrangements internationaux intéressant la protection des réfugiés sur le territoire de la République, et notamment la protection prévue par la convention de Genève du 28 juillet 1951 et par le protocole de New York du 31 janvier 1967 relatifs au statut des réfugiés.
Il coopère avec le haut-commissaire des Nations unies pour les réfugiés et facilite sa mission de surveillance dans les conditions prévues par les accords internationaux.
