A Conseil national des opérations funéraires (National Council for Funeral Operations) is created under the authority of the Minister of the Interior. It is made up of representatives of the municipalities and their groupings, of the régies and of the authorised undertakings or associations that provide the services listed in article L. 2223-19 or who take part in funeral operations, trade unions representing employees in this sector at national level, family associations, consumer associations, State administrations and personalities appointed for their expertise.
The Conseil national des opérations funéraires is consulted on draft texts relating to funeral legislation and regulations. It may submit any proposals to the public authorities. It gives its opinion on the national regulations governing funeral undertakers and on the professional training obligations of authorised agencies, undertakings and associations.
A decree specifies its composition and operating procedures.
The Conseil national des opérations funéraires publishes a report every two years on its activities, the level of and changes in professional tariffs and the operating conditions of the funeral sector.
