Article L1424-44 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The departmental fire and rescue service must have within five years of the promulgation of the loi n° 96-369 du 3 mai 1996 relative aux services d’incendie et de secours :

1° A departmental fire and rescue operational centre responsible for coordinating the operational activity of the fire and rescue services at department level;

2° One, or, if necessary, several alert processing centres, responsible for receiving, processing and possibly redirecting requests for assistance.

The emergency call handling systems of the fire and rescue services are interconnected with the call reception and regulation centres of the units participating in the emergency medical assistance service, known as S.A.M.U., as well as with the call reception systems intended for the police services.

Le service départemental d’incendie et de secours doit disposer dans un délai de cinq ans à compter de la promulgation de la loi n° 96-369 du 3 mai 1996 relative aux services d’incendie et de secours :

1° D’un centre opérationnel départemental d’incendie et de secours chargé de la coordination de l’activité opérationnelle des services d’incendie et de secours au niveau du département ;

2° D’un, ou, si nécessaire, plusieurs centres de traitement de l’alerte, chargés de la réception, du traitement et de la réorientation éventuelle des demandes de secours.

Les dispositifs de traitement des appels d’urgence des services d’incendie et de secours sont interconnectés avec les centres de réception et de régulation des appels des unités participant au service d’aide médicale urgente, appelées S.A.M.U., ainsi qu’avec les dispositifs de réception des appels destinés aux services de police.
