The mayor is responsible for policing bathing and water sports activities carried out from the shore using beach and unregistered equipment. This policing is exercised at sea up to a limit set at 300 metres from the water’s edge.
The mayor regulates the use of facilities built for the practice of these activities. The mayor shall provide for all emergency assistance and rescue measures.
The mayor shall designate one or more supervised areas in those parts of the coastline offering sufficient guarantees for the safety of bathing and the activities mentioned above. He shall determine the periods of surveillance. Outside the areas and periods thus defined, bathing and water sports activities are practised at the risk and peril of those concerned.
The mayor is required to inform the public by means of appropriate advertising, at the town hall and at the places where they are practised, of the conditions under which bathing and water sports activities are regulated.
