Article L263-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

Foreign nationals whose situation is governed by this book may be placed in administrative detention under the conditions and in accordance with the procedures laid down in articles L. 741-1, L. 741-4, L. 741-5 and L. 741-7 when they are subject to a decision imposing an obligation to leave French territory or a ban on movement on French territory taken in application of Chapter I of Title IV.

Les étrangers dont la situation est régie par le présent livre peuvent être placés en rétention administrative dans les conditions et selon les modalités prévues aux articles L. 741-1, L. 741-4, L. 741-5 et L. 741-7 lorsqu’ils font l’objet d’une décision portant obligation de quitter le territoire français ou d’une interdiction de circulation sur le territoire français prise en application du chapitre I du titre IV.
