Sales accompanied or preceded by advertising and announced as tending, through a reduction in price, to the accelerated disposal of all or part of the goods of a commercial establishment following a decision, whatever the cause, to cease, seasonally suspend or change the activity, or substantially modify the operating conditions, are considered liquidations.
Liquidation operations are subject to prior declaration to the mayor of the municipality in which the liquidation takes place. This declaration must state the reason for the liquidation and its duration, which may not exceed two months. It must be accompanied by an inventory of the goods to be liquidated. Where the event giving rise to the liquidation has not occurred within six months of the declaration, the declarant is required to inform the competent administrative authority.
During the liquidation, it is forbidden to offer for sale any goods other than those appearing in the inventory on the basis of which the prior declaration was lodged.
