Article L421-5 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

A foreign national who engages in an economically viable self-employed activity from which he/she derives sufficient means of subsistence, in compliance with the legislation in force, will be issued with a temporary residence permit bearing the words “entrepreneur/self-employed” for a maximum period of one year.
