Article L445-5 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

The temporary residence permit or multiannual residence permit issued in French Polynesia grants the right to reside solely on the territory of this collectivity.
The resident permit issued in French Polynesia grants the right to reside in the Wallis and Futuna Islands and in French Polynesia.
Residence permits issued outside French Polynesia do not confer the right to enter and reside in French Polynesia.
As an exception to the third paragraph, foreign nationals holding a residence permit issued outside French Polynesia enter and reside in French Polynesia under the same conditions as foreign nationals holding a residence permit issued in French Polynesia.

La carte de séjour temporaire ou la carte de séjour pluriannuelle délivrée en Polynésie française ouvre droit au séjour uniquement sur le territoire de cette collectivité.
La carte de résident délivrée en Polynésie française ouvre droit au séjour dans les îles Wallis et Futuna et en Polynésie française.
Les titres de séjour délivrés hors de Polynésie française ne confèrent pas le droit d’entrer et de séjourner en Polynésie française.
Par dérogation au troisième alinéa, les étrangers titulaires d’une carte de résident délivrée hors de Polynésie française entrent et séjournent en Polynésie française dans les mêmes conditions que les étrangers titulaires d’une carte de résident délivrée en Polynésie française.
