Article L512-1 of the French Intellectual Property Code

The application for registration shall be filed, on pain of invalidity, at the Institut national de la propriété industrielle where the applicant has his domicile or registered office in Paris or outside France.

Where the applicant has his domicile or registered office in France outside Paris, he may, at his option, file the application for registration at the Institut national de la propriété industrielle or at the registry of the commercial court or, in the absence of a commercial court, at the registry of the court ruling in commercial matters.

Where the application for registration is filed at the registry of a court, the court shall forward it to the Institut national de la propriété industrielle.

Article L512-1

La demande d’enregistrement est déposée, à peine de nullité, à l’Institut national de la propriété industrielle lorsque le déposant a son domicile ou son siège social à Paris ou hors de France.

Lorsque le déposant a son domicile ou son siège social en France en dehors de Paris, il peut, à son choix, déposer la demande d’enregistrement à l’Institut national de la propriété industrielle ou au greffe du tribunal de commerce ou, en l’absence de tribunal de commerce, au greffe de la juridiction statuant en matière commerciale.

Lorsque la demande d’enregistrement est déposée au greffe d’un tribunal, celui-ci la transmet à l’Institut national de la propriété industrielle.
