The duration of the apprenticeship contract, when it is concluded for a limited period, or of the apprenticeship period, when the apprenticeship contract is concluded for an indefinite period, varies between six months and three years, subject to the cases of extension provided for in Article L. 6222-11.
It is equal to the duration of the training cycle preparing for the qualification which is the subject of the contract, which is set according to the type of profession and level of qualification being prepared.
By way of derogation from the second paragraph of this article, the duration of the apprenticeship contract or period may be shorter or longer than that of the training cycle preparing for the qualification which is the subject of the contract, taking into account the apprentice’s initial level of skills or the skills acquired, where applicable, during a period of mobility abroad, as provided for in article L. 6222-42, during a military activity in the operational reserve provided for in Book II of Part Four of the Defence Code, during a civic service defined in II of Article L. 120-1 of the National Service Code, during a military volunteer service provided for in Article L. 121-1 of the same Code or during a volunteer fire brigade commitment in application ofArticle L. 723-3 of the Internal Security Code. This duration is then set by a tripartite agreement signed by the training centre, the employer and the apprentice or his/her legal representative, appended to the apprenticeship contract.
