The postal cheque service is managed by the Office des postes et télécommunications.
Subject to approval by the Office des postes et télécommunications, any person may open a postal current account.
Postal cheques cannot be endorsed.
If payment is refused, a certificate of non-payment shall be drawn up instead of a protest.
The holder of a postal current account shall be liable for the consequences of the misuse, loss or disappearance of cheque forms issued to him by the Office des postes et télécommunications. The responsibility for an erroneous payment or transfer resulting from inaccurate or incomplete information lies with the drawer of the cheque or the originator of the transfer order.
The balance of any postal current account which has not been the subject of any transaction or claim for thirty years on the part of the beneficiaries is acquired by New Caledonia.
