Article R1211-30 of the French Public Health Code

The purpose of biovigilance is to :

1° Systematically monitor all incidents and adverse reactions;

2° Immediately report serious incidents and unexpected adverse reactions to the local biovigilance correspondent;

3° Immediately report serious incidents and unexpected adverse reactions to the Agence de la biomédecine;

4° Analyse, evaluate and use this information to limit the probability of occurrence of any new serious incident or unexpected adverse reaction or to reduce their severity;

5° Carry out any investigation or study relating to serious incidents and unexpected adverse reactions.

La biovigilance a pour objet de :


1° Surveiller de façon systématique tous les incidents et tous les effets indésirables ;


2° Signaler sans délai les incidents graves et les effets indésirables inattendus au correspondant local de biovigilance ;


3° Déclarer sans délai à compter de leur signalement les incidents graves et les effets indésirables inattendus à l’Agence de la biomédecine ;


4° Analyser, évaluer et exploiter ces informations en vue de limiter la probabilité de survenue de tout nouvel incident grave ou effet indésirable inattendu ou d’en diminuer la gravité ;


5° Réaliser toute investigation ou étude portant sur les incidents graves et les effets indésirables inattendus.
