Article R1321-49 of the French Public Health Code

I.-The person responsible for the production, distribution or conditioning of water uses, in new installations or parts of installations undergoing renovation, from the point of withdrawal from the resource to the points of compliance defined in article R. 1321-5, materials and objects that come into contact with water intended for human consumption that comply with the provisions of article R. 1321-48.

II – Without prejudice to the provisions of I, the installation of lead pipes or any lead component in production, distribution or conditioning installations for water intended for human consumption is prohibited.

An order by the Minister for Health, issued after consultation with the French National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety, defines the methods for assessing the potential for lead to dissolve in water.

Article R1321-49

I.-La personne responsable de la production, de la distribution ou du conditionnement d’eau utilise, dans des installations nouvelles ou parties d’installations faisant l’objet d’une rénovation, depuis le point de prélèvement dans la ressource jusqu’aux points de conformité définis à l’article R. 1321-5, des matériaux et objets entrant en contact avec l’eau destinée à la consommation humaine conformes aux dispositions de l’article R. 1321-48.

II.-Sans préjudice des dispositions prévues au I, la mise en place de canalisations en plomb ou de tout élément en plomb dans les installations de production, de distribution ou de conditionnement d’eau destinée à la consommation humaine est interdite.

Un arrêté du ministre chargé de la santé, pris après avis de l’Agence nationale de sécurité sanitaire de l’alimentation, de l’environnement et du travail, définit les modalités d’évaluation du potentiel de dissolution du plomb dans l’eau.
