Article R1418-20 of the French Public Health Code

The Chairman of the Policy Board and its members are appointed for a term of three years, renewable once.

If a seat falls vacant due to the permanent inability of its holder or the loss of the capacity in respect of which he was appointed, another member is appointed under the same conditions as the one he replaces and for the remainder of the term of office.

Le président du conseil d’orientation et ses membres sont nommés pour une durée de trois ans renouvelable une fois.

En cas de vacance d’un siège du fait de l’empêchement définitif de son titulaire ou de la perte de la qualité au titre de laquelle il a été nommé, un autre membre est nommé dans les mêmes conditions que celui qu’il remplace et pour la durée du mandat restant à accomplir.
