Article R15-17-2 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The duties of investigation assistant may be performed by the staff mentioned in article 21-3 who have passed an examination certifying their suitability to carry out the duties provided for in that same article, after having received specific training relating to those duties, and who are assigned to a national police service or a national gendarmerie unit from among those mentioned in articles R. 15-18 à R. 15-25.

A joint order of the Minister of Justice and the Minister of the Interior sets the content and duration of the training programme and the examination tests as well as the procedures for organising them.

Peuvent exercer les fonctions d’assistant d’enquête les personnels mentionnés à l’article 21-3 ayant satisfait à un examen certifiant leur aptitude à exercer les missions prévues à ce même article, après avoir reçu une formation spécifique portant sur ces missions, et affectés au sein d’un service de la police nationale ou d’une unité de la gendarmerie nationale parmi ceux mentionnés aux articles R. 15-18 à R. 15-25.


Un arrêté conjoint du garde des sceaux, ministre de la justice, et du ministre de l’intérieur fixe le contenu et la durée du programme de la formation et des épreuves de l’examen ainsi que les modalités d’organisation de celles-ci.
