Article R15-17-4 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

Investigation assistants shall have access to the case file for the performance of the tasks entrusted to them and shall be bound by professional secrecy under the conditions of Article 11.

They may not receive or seek instructions other than those from judicial police officers and, where they are competent, judicial police officers, under whose authority they are placed.

Les assistants d’enquête ont accès au dossier de la procédure pour l’exécution des missions qui leur sont confiées et sont tenus au secret professionnel dans les conditions de l’article 11.


Ils ne peuvent recevoir ni solliciter d’autres instructions que celles des officiers de police judiciaire, et, lorsqu’ils sont compétents, des agents de police judiciaire, sous l’autorité desquels ils sont placés.
