The status of judicial police officer is granted by joint order of the Minister of Justice and the Minister of the Interior to peacekeepers who, pursuant to the article 20 (4° and 5°), have passed a technical examination covering criminal law, criminal procedure and civil liberties, after having received specific training.
A joint order of the Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice, and the Minister of the Interior sets the content of the training programme and the technical examination tests, as well as the procedures for organising them and drawing up the list of successful candidates.
One or more examination commissions, the members of which are appointed by joint order of the Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice, and the Minister of the Interior, are set up in each jurisdiction of a court of appeal that includes at least one interdepartmental or departmental national police internship and training centre. Each commission is made up of:
1° The public prosecutor at the court of appeal or his delegate, chairman, and the public prosecutor at one of the judicial courts within the jurisdiction of the court of appeal or his delegate;
2° The territorial director for recruitment and training of the national police, or the head of the territorial recruitment and training department of the territorial directorate of the national police, or his representative having at least the rank of police commissioner and a police officer also having at least the same rank.
The secretariat for each examination board is provided by the national police’s resources and skills directorate.
