Article R227 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The president of each court or the magistrate he delegates for this purpose shall tax statements or memoranda relating to costs incurred on the decision of authorities belonging to that court or persons acting under the control of those authorities.

The president of the judicial court may also delegate to the examining magistrate, the sentence enforcement magistrate or the juvenile magistrate the taxation of costs incurred by them.

Le président de chaque juridiction ou le magistrat qu’il délègue à cet effet taxe les états ou mémoires relatifs à des frais engagés sur la décision des autorités appartenant à cette juridiction ou des personnes agissant sous le contrôle de ces autorités.

Le président du tribunal judiciaire peut aussi déléguer au juge d’instruction, au juge de l’application des peines ou au juge des enfants la taxation des frais qu’ils ont engagés.
