Article R431-10 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

A foreign national applying for the issue or renewal of a residence permit must submit the following in support of their application:
1° Documents proving their civil status;
2° Documents proving their nationality;
3° Documents proving the civil status and nationality of their spouse, children and parents when applying for the issue or renewal of a residence permit for family reasons.
The issue of the first receipt and the intervention of the decision relating to the residence permit applied for are subject to the production of these documents.
When the application for a residence permit is made pursuant to article L. 431-2, the applicant may be authorised to submit his application without presenting these documents.

L’étranger qui demande la délivrance ou le renouvellement d’un titre de séjour présente à l’appui de sa demande :
1° Les documents justifiants de son état civil ;
2° Les documents justifiants de sa nationalité ;
3° Les documents justifiants de l’état civil et de la nationalité de son conjoint, de ses enfants et de ses parents lorsqu’il sollicite la délivrance ou le renouvellement d’un titre de séjour pour motif familial.
La délivrance du premier récépissé et l’intervention de la décision relative au titre de séjour sollicité sont subordonnées à la production de ces documents.
Lorsque la demande de titre de séjour est introduite en application de l’article L. 431-2, le demandeur peut être autorisé à déposer son dossier sans présentation de ces documents.
