Where collective protective devices cannot be used from a work surface, workers’ individual protection is ensured by means of an appropriate fall arrest system which does not allow a free fall of more than one metre or which, under the same conditions, limits the effects of a fall from a greater height.
When such personal protective equipment is used, workers must never be left alone, so that they can be rescued within a timeframe compatible with the preservation of their health.
The employer must include a notice specifying the anchorage points, mooring devices and procedures for using the personal protective equipment.
