Article R4323-70 of the French Labour Code

The person supervising the erection, dismantling or alteration of a scaffold and the workers taking part have at their disposal the manufacturer’s instructions or the erection and dismantling plan, including any instructions they may contain.
Where the scaffolding is erected in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, it is erected in accordance with the calculation note referred to in those instructions.
Where this calculation note is not available or the structural configurations envisaged are not provided for in it, a strength and stability calculation is carried out by a competent person.
Where the envisaged configuration of the scaffolding does not correspond to an assembly provided for in the instructions, an assembly, use and dismantling plan is drawn up by a competent person.
These documents are kept at the workplace.

La personne qui dirige le montage, le démontage ou la modification d’un échafaudage et les travailleurs qui y participent disposent de la notice du fabricant ou du plan de montage et de démontage, notamment de toutes les instructions qu’ils peuvent comporter.
Lorsque le montage de l’échafaudage correspond à celui prévu par la notice du fabricant, il est réalisé conformément à la note de calcul à laquelle renvoie cette notice.
Lorsque cette note de calcul n’est pas disponible ou que les configurations structurelles envisagées ne sont pas prévues par celle-ci, un calcul de résistance et de stabilité est réalisé par une personne compétente.
Lorsque la configuration envisagée de l’échafaudage ne correspond pas à un montage prévu par la notice, un plan de montage, d’utilisation et de démontage est établi par une personne compétente.
Ces documents sont conservés sur le lieu de travail.
