Article R4441-1 of the French Labour Code

For the purposes of this Title, the following definitions shall apply
1° Vibration transmitted to the hands and arms: mechanical vibration which, when transmitted to the hands and arms of humans, causes risks to the health and safety of workers, in particular vascular disorders, osteoarticular lesions or neurological or muscular disorders;
2° Whole-body vibration means mechanical vibration which, when transmitted to the whole body, causes health and safety risks for workers, in particular low back pain and microtrauma of the spinal column.

Au sens du présent titre, on entend par :
1° Vibration transmise aux mains et aux bras, une vibration mécanique qui, lorsqu’elle est transmise aux mains et aux bras chez l’homme, entraîne des risques pour la santé et la sécurité des travailleurs, notamment des troubles vasculaires, des lésions ostéo-articulaires ou des troubles neurologiques ou musculaires ;
2° Vibration transmise à l’ensemble du corps, une vibration mécanique qui, lorsqu’elle est transmise à l’ensemble du corps, entraîne des risques pour la santé et la sécurité des travailleurs, notamment des lombalgies et des microtraumatismes de la colonne vertébrale.
