Article R6152-543 of the French Public Health Code

The following may be recruited as associate midwives:

1° Candidates for authorisation to practise the profession of midwife defined in I of article L. 4111-2, who have passed the knowledge verification tests, for the performance of the duties required by the provisions of the same I ;

2° Candidates for authorisation to practise the profession of midwife as defined in II of article L. 4111-2 and in article L. 4151-5-1, to complete the adaptation period provided for in the same articles.

They carry out their duties under the direct responsibility of the practitioner in charge of the department or the practitioner responsible for the internal structure to which they are assigned or, if the latter is unable to carry out his/her duties, one of his/her medical colleagues. They take part in the activities of the unit or internal structure to which they are assigned within the framework of the organisation of activities defined by the senior midwife or midwife assistant to the head of the unit.

Peuvent être recrutés en qualité de sages-femmes associées :

1° Les candidats à l’autorisation d’exercice de la profession de sage-femme définie au I de l’article L. 4111-2, lauréats des épreuves de vérification des connaissances, pour l’accomplissement des fonctions requises par les dispositions du même I ;

2° Les candidats à l’autorisation d’exercice de la profession de sage-femme définie au II de l’article L. 4111-2 et à l’article L. 4151-5-1, pour l’accomplissement du stage d’adaptation prévu aux mêmes articles.

Ils exercent leurs fonctions sous la responsabilité directe du praticien chef de pôle ou du praticien responsable de la structure interne dans laquelle ils sont affectés ou, en cas d’empêchement de celui-ci, de l’un de ses collaborateurs médecin. Ils participent à l’activité du pôle ou de la structure interne dans laquelle ils sont affectés dans le cadre de l’organisation des activités définie par la sage-femme cadre supérieur ou la sage-femme cadre assistant le chef de pôle.
