Hospital practitioners governed by this section may use the title of former hospital doctor, surgeon, psychiatrist, specialist, biologist, odontologist or pharmacist, if they have effectively performed their duties for five years. Part-time work is taken into account on a pro rata basis of weekly service obligations, up to a maximum of ten years.
They may take advantage of the honorary status of their post when they leave their duties to claim their pension rights, provided that they have completed at least twenty years of hospital service. However, honorary status may be refused, at the time of the practitioner’s departure, by a reasoned decision of the Director General of the Centre national de gestion des praticiens hospitaliers et des personnels de direction de la fonction publique hospitalière, on the grounds of the quality of services rendered. It may also be withdrawn, after removal from the register, if justified by the nature of the activities carried out. Honorary status may not be mentioned in connection with private profit-making activities other than cultural, scientific or research activities.
