Article R712-1 of the French Intellectual Property Code

The application for registration of a mark shall be filed at the headquarters of the National Institute of Industrial Property or shall be sent there by post or by any means of teletransmission under the conditions defined by decision of its Director General. The filing date shall be the date of receipt of the application at the registered office of the Institute.

The Director General of the National Institute of Industrial Property may require filing in electronic form where this is likely to facilitate examination and publication of the application.

The Institute shall provide assistance to applicants by any appropriate means, specified by decision of its Director General.

This Article shall also apply to the renewal declarations provided for in Article R. 712-24.

La demande d’enregistrement de marque est déposée au siège de l’Institut national de la propriété industrielle ou y est envoyée par pli postal ou par tout mode de télétransmission dans les conditions définies par décision de son directeur général. La date de dépôt est celle de la réception de la demande au siège de l’institut.

Le directeur général de l’Institut national de la propriété industrielle peut imposer un dépôt sous forme électronique lorsque cette modalité est de nature à faciliter l’examen et la publication de la demande.

L’institut apporte une assistance aux déposants par tout moyen approprié, précisé par décision de son directeur général.

Le présent article est également applicable aux déclarations de renouvellement prévues à l’article R. 712-24.
