Article 1208 of the French Code of civil procedure

The court or judge shall hear the parents, the guardian, the person or representative of the service to whom the child has been entrusted, and any person whose hearing it deems useful.

In cases where the parents have disappeared, the court or judge may order a search to be carried out in the interests of the families; in this case, it shall stay the decision for a period not exceeding six months.

Article 1208

Le tribunal ou le juge entend les parents, le tuteur, la personne ou le représentant du service à qui l’enfant a été confié, ainsi que toute personne dont l’audition lui paraît utile.

Dans le cas où les parents ont disparu, le tribunal ou le juge peut faire procéder à une recherche dans l’intérêt des familles ; en ce cas, il sursoit à la décision pour un délai n’excédant pas six mois.
