Article 186 of the French Code of civil procedure

When the personal appearance is ordered by a panel, the panel may decide that it will take place before one of its members.

When it is ordered by the judge in charge of the investigation, the latter may carry it out himself or decide that the appearance will take place before the trial panel.

Lorsque la comparution personnelle est ordonnée par une formation collégiale, celle-ci peut décider qu’elle aura lieu devant l’un de ses membres.

Lorsqu’elle est ordonnée par le juge chargé de l’instruction, celui-ci peut y procéder lui-même ou décider que la comparution aura lieu devant la formation de jugement.
