Derogations from the 50% threshold for public financial aid may be granted by the President of the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée, up to a limit of 70% and at the reasoned request of the distribution company, for difficult or low-budget cinematographic works.
A difficult film is a director’s first or second film. A programme of short films or a repertory film within the meaning of article 223-9 which presents particular difficulties for its distribution in view of the nature of the subject matter or the restricted forecast conditions for its exhibition in cinemas. A low-budget work is one whose final cost is less than or equal to €1,250,000.
