Automatic financial aid and selective financial aid are awarded to support the distribution of cinematographic works in cinemas.
The following are subject to the provisions of Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014 declaring certain categories of aid compatible with the internal market in application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty, in particular those provided for in Chapter I and Article 54 of Section 11 relating to aid schemes for audiovisual works:1° Automatic financial aid for distribution giving rise to the allocation of investment…
The beneficiaries of financial aid for the distribution of cinematographic works are distribution companies.
To be eligible for financial aid for distribution, distribution companies must meet the following conditions:1° Be established in France;2° Be set up as a commercial company and have a fully paid-up share capital of at least €15,000. Compliance with the condition relating to the amount of share capital is verified at the time of the first application for financial assistance.
The total amount of public financial aid granted for the distribution of a given cinematographic work may not exceed 50% of the distribution company’s financial investment.
Derogations from the 50% threshold for public financial aid may be granted by the President of the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée, up to a limit of 70% and at the reasoned request of the distribution company, for difficult or low-budget cinematographic works.
