Article 264 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

A special list of alternate jurors shall also be drawn up each year by the commission, under the conditions provided for in Article 263, outside the annual list of jurors. Alternate jurors must reside in the town in which the Assize Court has its seat.

The number of jurors appearing on this list, which may not be less than fifty nor more than seven hundred, is fixed, for each assize court, by order of the Minister of Justice.

Une liste spéciale de jurés suppléants est également dressée chaque année par la commission, dans les conditions prévues à l’article 263, en dehors de la liste annuelle des jurés. Les jurés suppléants doivent résider dans la ville siège de la cour d’assises.

Le nombre des jurés figurant sur cette liste, qui ne peut être inférieur à cinquante ni supérieur à sept cents, est fixé, pour chaque cour d’assises, par arrêté du ministre de la justice.
