Article 357 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

Each of the magistrates and jurors is given, for this purpose, an open ballot paper, marked with the stamp of the Assize Court and bearing these words: “On my honour and in my conscience, my declaration is …”.

He writes in succession or has written secretly the word “yes” or the word “no” on a table arranged in such a way that no one can see the vote written on the ballot paper. He hands the written and closed ballot paper to the chairman, who places it in a ballot box intended for this purpose.

Chacun des magistrats et des jurés reçoit, à cet effet, un bulletin ouvert, marqué du timbre de la cour d’assises et portant ces mots : “Sur mon honneur et en ma conscience, ma déclaration est …”.

Il écrit à la suite ou fait écrire secrètement le mot “oui” ou le mot “non” sur une table disposée de manière que personne ne puisse voir le vote inscrit sur le bulletin. Il remet le bulletin écrit et fermé au président, qui le dépose dans une urne destinée à cet usage.
