Article 419 of the French Code of civil procedure

A representative who intends to terminate his mandate shall not be discharged from it until he has informed his principal, the judge and the opposing party of his intention.

Where representation is compulsory, the lawyer may not be discharged from his representation mandate until the day on which he is replaced by a new representative constituted by the party or, failing that, appointed by the President of the Bar or by the President of the Disciplinary Chamber.

Le représentant qui entend mettre fin à son mandat n’en est déchargé qu’après avoir informé de son intention son mandant, le juge et la partie adverse.

Lorsque la représentation est obligatoire, l’avocat ne peut se décharger de son mandat de représentation que du jour où il est remplacé par un nouveau représentant constitué par la partie ou, à défaut, commis par le bâtonnier ou par le président de la chambre de discipline.
