Article 57-1 of the French Civil Code

When the civil registrar of the place of birth of a child mentions the recognition of the said child in the margin of the child’s birth certificate, he shall notify the other parent by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt.

If this parent cannot be notified, the civil registrar shall inform the public prosecutor, who shall arrange for the necessary steps to be taken.

Article 57-1

Lorsque l’officier de l’état civil du lieu de naissance d’un enfant porte mention de la reconnaissance dudit enfant en marge de l’acte de naissance de celui-ci, il en avise l’autre parent par lettre recommandée avec demande d’avis de réception.

Si ce parent ne peut être avisé, l’officier de l’état civil en informe le procureur de la République, qui fait procéder aux diligences utiles.
