Article 696-22 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

If the person claimed is at liberty when the decision of the government authorising extradition is no longer subject to appeal, the Attorney General may order the search for and arrest of the person concerned, including by applying Article 74-2, and his placement under extradition. Once the person has been apprehended, the Public Prosecutor shall notify the Minister of Justice of the arrest without delay. The person claimed shall be handed over to the requesting State within seven days of the date of arrest, failing which he or she shall be released automatically.

Si la personne réclamée est en liberté lorsque la décision du gouvernement ayant autorisé l’extradition n’est plus susceptible de recours, le procureur général peut ordonner la recherche et l’arrestation de l’intéressé, y compris en faisant application de l’article 74-2, et son placement sous écrou extraditionnel. Lorsque celui-ci a été appréhendé, le procureur général donne avis de cette arrestation, sans délai, au ministre de la justice. La remise à l’Etat requérant de la personne réclamée s’effectue dans les sept jours suivant la date de l’arrestation, faute de quoi elle est mise d’office en liberté.
