Article 760 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

When the judicial restraint has ended for any reason, it may no longer be exercised either for the same debt or for convictions prior to its execution, unless these convictions entail by their quantum a longer restraint than that already undergone, in which case the first incarceration must always be deducted from the new restraint.

Lorsque la contrainte judiciaire a pris fin pour une cause quelconque, elle ne peut plus être exercée ni pour la même dette, ni pour des condamnations antérieures à son exécution, à moins que ces condamnations n’entraînent par leur quotité une contrainte plus longue que celle déjà subie, auquel cas la première incarcération doit toujours être déduite de la nouvelle contrainte.
