Article 88 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The investigating judge issues an order confirming that the complaint has been lodged. Depending on the resources of the civil party, he shall set the amount of the deposit that the latter must, if he has not obtained legal aid, deposit at the court registry and the deadline by which it must be made, failing which the complaint will be inadmissible. The court may exempt the civil party from making a deposit.

Le juge d’instruction constate, par ordonnance, le dépôt de la plainte. En fonction des ressources de la partie civile, il fixe le montant de la consignation que celle-ci doit, si elle n’a obtenu l’aide juridictionnelle, déposer au greffe et le délai dans lequel elle devra être faite sous peine de non-recevabilité de la plainte. Il peut dispenser de consignation la partie civile.
