Article 990 of the French Civil Code

In all cases, a duplicate original of the wills mentioned in the two preceding articles shall be made.

If this formality could not be fulfilled due to the testator’s state of health, an expedition of the will shall be drawn up to take the place of the second original; this expedition shall be signed by the witnesses and by the instrumental officers. Mention shall be made of the reasons which prevented the second original from being drawn up.

Dans tous les cas, il sera fait un double original des testaments mentionnés aux deux articles précédents.

Si cette formalité n’a pu être remplie à raison de l’état de santé du testateur, il sera dressé une expédition du testament pour tenir lieu du second original ; cette expédition sera signée par les témoins et par les officiers instrumentaires. Il y sera fait mention des causes qui ont empêché de dresser le second original.
