Aptitude test
1. Test to verify theoretical and practical knowledge of safety.
This test aims to verify the candidate’s ability to design a mountaineering project based on their professional experience as a mountain guide.
It consists of a presentation in French followed by an interview with the jury lasting a maximum of thirty minutes. This presentation is preceded by preparation time of the same duration, to enable the candidate to study a practical case related to the activity of mountain guide, submitted by the jury.
This presentation takes place in two stages:
1° A presentation designed to check the candidate’s ability to explain and analyse his/her professional experience in terms of safety, based on his/her list of routes;
2° A presentation on the study of the practical case involving the design of a route project. The aim of this presentation is to test the candidate’s ability to use information to prevent risk and manage the situation in the event of an accident, i.e.:
a) Analyse a weather and avalanche risk bulletin written in French;
b) Prepare the choice of route adapted to the practical case, based on topographical information;
c) Implement risk management techniques;
d) Sound the alarm and provide emergency assistance.
The ability to design a mountaineering project is assessed overall. It may or may not be acquired. If the candidate does not master any of the four situations a, b, c or d, he will be eliminated.
2. Technical safety test.
The aim of this test is to check the candidate’s ability to move safely in a high mountain environment using mountaineering techniques, i.e. :
prepare for the excursion or ascent;
– use techniques adapted to different types of terrain;
-safely managing the public under your supervision.
It consists of accompanying and guiding people on mountain excursions or climbs, for a maximum of five days.
If the jury considers that the safety of the excursion or climb is compromised, it may decide to interrupt it at any time.
