As part of its mission to coordinate the cancer control initiatives mentioned in Article L. 1415-2, the Institute :
1° Rely, where necessary, on the one hand on the professionals, health industry professionals and user representatives mentioned in article L. 1415-2, and on the other hand on the central government administrations, its decentralised departments, its departments with national competence and its public establishments, in particular the regional health agencies;
2° Collects and disseminates, where appropriate, information relating to the organisation, resources, activity and results of the cancer control system, as well as information relating to the evaluation of actions undertaken to improve this system, provided in particular by the central and decentralised services of the State, its public establishments, the Union nationale des caisses d’assurance maladie, the primary health insurance funds and all providers of care, research, prevention or involved in the fight against cancer.The Institute also gathers information provided by patients’ or users’ associations, institutions representing healthcare professionals and industrial service providers in the fight against cancer;
3° Issues any proposals or recommendations to the ministers responsible for higher education, research and health that may help to improve the cancer control system;
4° At the request of the ministers responsible for higher education, research and health, issue an opinion on any draft regulatory text or circular relating to the organisation, development or funding of the fight against cancer, particularly with regard to cancer surveillance, prevention, screening, care, assessment and research, as well as training and medical and paramedical education in cancerology;
5° Identifies and evaluates, by means of procedures it defines, if necessary within the framework of a label, the organisations working in the field of cancer and which justify a particular capacity for expertise or evaluation due to their character as a reference in terms of research, teaching or referral care, In particular, specific regional cancer schemes for their specific quality promotion and coordination missions, and hospital organisations carrying out missions of national or inter-regional interest, such as paediatric oncology referral centres and hadrontherapy centres.
