Article D3231-13 of the French Labour Code

For the staff of hotels, cafés, restaurants and establishments or organisations in which foodstuffs or beverages are consumed on the premises and for the kitchen staff of other establishments, who because of the particular conditions of their work or customary practice, are provided with free food by the employer or receive a compensatory allowance, food calculated in accordance with the provisions of article D. 3231-10, is only taken into account for half its value.

Pour le personnel des hôtels, cafés, restaurants et des établissements ou organismes dans lesquels des denrées alimentaires ou des boissons sont consommées sur place et pour le personnel de cuisine des autres établissements, qui en raison des conditions particulières de leur travail ou des usages, sont nourris gratuitement par l’employeur ou reçoivent une indemnité compensatrice, la nourriture calculée conformément aux dispositions de l’article D. 3231-10, n’entre en compte que pour la moitié de sa valeur.
