Any person who fits a sick or disabled person with a non-functional eyeball or an orbital cavity following enucleation or evisceration, using a custom-made external ocular prosthesis, is considered to be practising the profession of ocularist.
The fitting covers the design, taking of measurements with possible moulding, manufacture, fitting, delivery of the appliance, checking of its tolerance and immediate functional effectiveness, monitoring of the appliance, including repolishing and monitoring of its adaptation.
