Chapter IV: Prosthetists and orthotists for the fitting of appliances to the disabled

Prosthetists and orthotists who fit orthopaedic appliances to sick or disabled people include the following professions: 1° Orthoprosthetists ; 2° Pedorthists 3° Ocularists 4° Epithesists; 5° Orthopaedic orthotists.

The profession of ortho-prosthetist is taken to mean any person who makes external orthopaedic fittings to measure with an impression or mould for a sick or disabled person with an amputation of all or part of a limb, or with an osteoarticular, muscular or neurological deficiency. Fitting covers the design, taking of measurements and any moulding, manufacture, fitting, delivery of the appliance, checking its tolerance and immediate effectiveness, and monitoring the fitting and its adaptation.

Any person who fits sick or disabled people with custom-made orthotic or orthopaedic appliances or mass-produced orthotic or orthopaedic appliances is considered to be practising the profession of orthopaedist-orthotist.
