The profession of ortho-prosthetist is taken to mean any person who makes external orthopaedic fittings to measure with an impression or mould for a sick or disabled person with an amputation of all or part of a limb, or with an osteoarticular, muscular or neurological deficiency.
The fitting covers the design, measurement with impression or moulding, manufacture, fitting, adaptation, delivery of the appliance, checking of its tolerance and immediate functional effectiveness, monitoring of the appliance, its adaptation, maintenance and repairs.
The definition of appliances reserved for ortho-prosthetists is laid down by order of the Minister for Health.
The list of standard orthoses that can be issued by orthotists is set by order of the Minister for Health.
