Any person who fits sick or disabled people with custom-made orthotic or orthopaedic appliances or mass-produced orthotic or orthopaedic appliances is considered to be practising the profession of orthopaedist-orthotist.
In the case of made-to-measure products, fitting includes taking measurements, designing and, if necessary, manufacturing, as well as, in the case of all products, choosing the fitting, fitting it, delivering it, checking its tolerance and immediate functional effectiveness, monitoring the fitting, its adaptation and repairs.
The definition of orthopaedic devices reserved for orthopaedic surgeons is laid down by order of the Minister for Health.
The list of standard orthoses that can be issued by orthopaedic surgeons is laid down by order of the Minister for Health.
